The Book of Mormon is awesome!
What I learned from Hugh Nibley In the 50s
I wrote this using Telepathy by Neuralink to control the cursor with just my thoughts! I am just the 3rd person in the world to do this.
I have been listening to this Hugh Nibley seminar on The Book of Mormon from the 80s to go to sleep.
Here are some things that I Learned. . .
There is no way that Joseph Smith , or anyone else in 1827, wrote the book. If they did , they would be a Tolkien level world builder with no education .
Discoveries since 1830, including the Dead Sea Scrolls in the 1960s, support the ancient nature of The Book of Mormon.
Names like Ammon, Korihor, and Pacumeni are Egyptian from the era and have been discovered after the book was published.
Dr. Nibley had an odd sense of humor and said “and so forth” a lot !
This should all tell you that The Book of Mormon is PLAUSIBLE. The only way to know if it is true is to read it and pray.
“when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of … and ponder it in your hearts.
“And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.
“And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.” (Moroni 10:3-5).
I know that the Book of Mormon is true because of this promise! It is a true testament of Jesus Christ, meant to strengthen the Bible. It has been a huge comfort to me as I have faced ALS.
That is what I learned from Hugh Nibley in the 80s.
